Madia Believes in the Inherent Value of Music

Madia is living, singing, and writing proof that Pop has Soul. Her music comes from deeply held personal beliefs that people deserve the truth, should pursue what makes them happy, and keep learning and creating. She also believes in the inherent value of music.

Madia has a purity of tone and texture that sets her apart. Her songs tend to be melodic, right in the pocket and she stands unafraid to confess her heartbreak, share her love stories, in honest artist fashion. If you’ve heard her live – you’ve heard something real. Madia’s sincere, soul-bearing performances have always been memorable. The chanteuse enjoys performing but has always has a passion for the written word. She began journaling in the third grade and from that branched out to other formats like grade school notes to boys, poetry, short stories, and finally songs. Music was always a family affair as Madia is the second of three vocally talented siblings. Madia started singing in church as a young child. In "On my Way" she reminisces about her Aunt making her start songs from the beginning when she got too nervous or messed up a line. She recalls, "It definitely made me a stronger singer and it was a safe place to experiment with my voice." During her time in NJ, Madia performed in varied choirs and performance groups, learning the craft by doing. It wasn’t until college that Madia began experimenting with secular songwriting and performing outside of church.

After Rutgers, Madia became a "gypsy" in her father’s words and traveled to DC to write with the folks at 3 Keys Record Label. Madia’s writing was placed on the dynamic singer, Yahzarah’s, album Blackstar but most importantly Madia met LaSean, her now longtime collaborator. The Philadelphia native returned home to record her first studio album The Limit is the Sky in the fall of 2003. The pair was interested in completing a project together so he made the beats and they wrote together. The album was released under the independent label Minx Records. In the winter of 2003, a digital distribution deal gave her broader exposure with music placements on iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody, and others. The Limit is the Sky has several thousand downloads domestically and internationally. Madia has been featured on Power 99. Before CNET revamped download.com, Madia had well over 100,000 downloads of The Limit is the Sky. Madia’s sophomore release, On My Way was recorded in Phoenix, Ariz. and released in 2005. Madia and longtime collaborator LaSean focused on simple melodies with feel good lyrics. The title track for On My Way is an affirming positive smooth tune.

While love is her common thread, Madia writes about being homesick (Missing Home), always wanting to be like her father (Just Like You), and (No More) about being fed up with an unequal relationship. I should be your girl is a soulful pop song Madia’s third studio album Go Get It is scheduled for release on February 14, 2012. This album is currently being recorded in Seattle, Wash. and she’s excited to be working with a team of musicians and a broader production group to experiment with sounds and formats. Album producers include LaSean Smith of Seattle WA, Young Gab of Philadelphia PA, and Mr. Turner from Washington, DC. As a key musical influence, Madia sites Nina Simone. "I just love her strong simplicity and even delivery. Other influences include Cece Winans, Tamia, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, and Lauryn Hill. Currently she enjoys hometown heroes Jill Scott and Jazmine Sullivan along with Chrisette Michele and Estelle. Madia currently resides in Washington D.C.
